FAQ

Q : What is the difference between online, SMS and offline systems.?

A : The online system  sends data 24X7 about vehicle parameters to the central server in real time by using the cellphone network. Tracking is done on a Computer & alerts are generated both on the computer as well as SMS to designated cellphones.  Full fledged map facility & report facility is available in the software to get exhaustive information on maps and reports. This full featured system is primarily designed for commercial use.

In the SMS system data is also sent 24X7 to the central server. However, it is provided with only limited map facility ( to set geofences ) and with no report facility. The user is not expected to sit beside a computer all the time to track vehicles. Instead, the user will receive SMS alerts on his cellphone in case of any deviations from the set parameters. This system is primarily designed for individual use in personal cars.

In the offline system the cell phone network is not used at all. The vehicle data as it moves is stored in its internal memory. At the end of the journey the unit is connected to a computer which sends the stored data via internet to the central server. Full fledged map facility and report facility is available to analyse the journey after it is completed. This system is designed for commercial users with a smaller budget.

Q : Is there a cost difference between online, SMS & offline systems?

A : The online system is the most expensive due to its full featured configuration including 24X7 tracking, full featured map facility & exhaustive report capability. SMS systems are less expensive due to limited use of map & absence of report facility. Offline systems are the cheapest since real time tracking is not provided.

Q : Are monthly payments required for online, SMS & offline systems?

A : Online system requires monthly payments to be made towards SIM card usage charges, map usage charges etc. SMS systems require smaller monthly charges to be paid, whereas offline systems require no monthly charges to be paid.

Q : What happens if I stop paying monthly charges?

A : The cell phone service provider will disconnect your services on the SIM card and charge extra for reconnection. If done repeatedly, reconnection may not be possible.

Q : Instead of using Bluepac as a web based software, can I purchase the software for local use on my own computer / server?

A : Yes, bluepac CD is also available for purchase for local use. This is especially suitable when tracking is performed by the user from a single location.

Q : Why are external antennas used in online & offline systems?

A : Both these systems are meant for commercial use where vehicles are expected to ply long distances between towns & through rural areas  where the signals are likely to be weak. External antennas are more sensitive and can receive weak signals more easily.

Q : Why are built in antennas used in SMS systems?

A : This system is meant for individual use in personal vehicles. Users are unlikely to use their personal vehicles to travel long distances between towns & through rural areas. Most of the usage will be in the towns users live in, where network coverage is good & signals are stronger.  Since there are no wires, users can also use the unit to track children, elderly persons etc by keeping the unit in their pockets.

Q : Can I use the Bluebox SIM card in my mobile phone?

A : No, the card is not configured for mobile phone usage. Any attempt to do so may damage the card and render the product warranty void.

Q : Does the product come with any warranty?

A : Assuming that the product is not damaged due to misuse or acts of god, the product carries a warranty for 1 year against manufacturing defects. This warranty does not apply to external antennas and the chipset. During this period all other parts, if damaged, will be replaced free of charge. Pl refer to terms of warranty in the user manual.

Q : Are there any post warranty service schemes?

A : Yes, 3 schemes are available, ie 1 year, 3 year & 5 year schemes against payment of Rs 1200, 3000 & 4500 respectively per unit,  assuming that the product is not damaged due to misuse or acts of god. Payment for these scheme has to be made in full at the time of purchase of the units. This scheme does not apply to external antennas and the chipset. During this period all other parts, if damaged, will either be replaced free of charge or the entire unit replaced by a new one at discounted cost ( if repairs are not possible ).

Q : I have just bought some units. How do I get started?

A : The dealer will enter your user ID & password to register one unit and activate your account at the time of purchase. You can subsequently change your password, enter your account and register all the remaining units in Bluepac database by following instructions in the user manual.

Q : I have bought a basic unit without accessories. Can I add these at a later date?

A : Blubox DB100.1 and DB200.1 do not support the accessories. Accessories can be added later in DB100.2 and DB200.2 as well as later versions.

Q : What are the advantages of a fully indigenously developed system as compared to CKD / SKD kits from China?

A : Imported kits lack hardware and software after sales service support, lack customization & lack modularity for a cost effective solution. They are not permitted in many Government applications including defense, coast guard, police, paramilitary & other strategic sectors due to pre-coded chips ( absence of coding under strict user control ) which is perceived as a risk to national security.

Q : Can anyone else track my vehicles? How secure is the service?

A : Only persons nominated via your set up procedure can track your vehicles. Ensure that such nominated persons do not disclose their passwords to any unauthorized persons. For sensitive Government applications a second layer of authorization can be made available.
