The
, which is installed in the vehicle, has a GPS chip which receives signals simultaneously from 4 or more satellites. These signals are received every few seconds and give precise data on the vehicle’s latitude, longitude, speed and the precise time when such data was recorded. This data is stored in the built in memory of the GPS chip system.
A GSM / GPRS chip with SIM card is also contained in the
. This reads the vehicle’s latitude, longitude, speed and time data from the GPS memory and transmits this data over the cell phone network every 5 minutes or so to the base station server. The interval at which data is sent to the base station is programmable and can range from every 30 seconds to several hours.
A proprietary software package called
is loaded on the base station server. This software deciphers the signals received and if any alerts have been generated, the same are sent as SMS to the user’s cell phone. The user does not get a constant stream of SMS, but only alerts such as overspeed, trespass, inactivity, SOS, theft etc. In case of theft of his vehicle, the user can immobilize the vehicle remotely from his cellphone, locate its position on the map & inform the police.
